Bite Sized Sweaters

Sweaters for small ones are so satisfying.

You get the enjoyment of knitting those hems and collars in record time (the beginning and end that I always look forward to).

You get the thrill of small lace or colorwork patterns that last only long enough to be fun, not long enough to question your sanity.

And you get the immense sense of accomplishment that comes with knitting two complete sleeves. Because sleeve knitting sucks. But finishing sleeves is awesome.

I’ve started my Christmas knitting and I’ve already knitted two matching sweaters for my niece and nephew. They don’t read yet (I think), so I’m not worried that I’ll spoil the surprise. I’ve even purchased the most adorable buttons for each sweater.

Each one of them is getting this sweater. Old Growth by TinCanKnits as seen on Ravelry.

It’s not even October yet. More Christmas knitting is definitely in the offing. Some folks are getting socks. Others are definitely going to be getting one of these Toph hats. So cool!

I’m knitting socks for a local political candidate who really inspires me. Hopefully those will be done by Christmas too.  Soxtherapist and I ran into her at our local food coop. She let us trace her feet so I can make a proper Fish Lips Kiss Heel sock.

In the midst of all this Christmas knitting, all I really want to do right now is spin. Spinning some deep stash right now: Abstract Fibers Polwarth/Silk in the Crater Lake colorway. I’ve had this stuff since my honeymoon in Oregon. A little compacted with storage, but the colors can’t be beat.

I’m a little fiber-nuts. How are you doing?

  1. Ah yes, gotta love little sweaters! My 2-year-old has given me the chance to knit up some cute ones the last couple of years. I need to keep it up while he is still small! 🙂
I am always trying out new heels…haven’t heard of the fish lips kiss one yet, but now I have added it to my list to try. Have you tried it yet? If so, what do you think of it? My current favorite is the OMG heel. But I am excited to try this one out on my next pair.

    • I’ve knitted the fish lips kiss heel many times. It’s not just a heel pattern, of course, it’s an overall method for knitting socks. However, if you know where to place your heel hinge, you can add it to any sock without a problem. I like not having a gusset.

  2. Wowza! Whippin’ out two of those? You were focused. I finished my niece’s cardigan but need to wet-block it. I’ll save it for Sunday I think. This head cold has sapped most of my energy this week.

  3. I love knitting things for little ones! The old ladies in my craft group say I’m such a good mommy for always knitting for my kids, I don’t have the heart to say it’s just because their stuff is so quick to get done. 😂

  4. I’m VERY fiber-nuts right now because I’ve run out of yarn for one of my UFOs! You list it in your “will sell or trade” stach on Ravelry, and I’ve sent a couple of messages. But evidently I’m not the only one who doesn’t check my messages–wouldn’t we much rather look at all those beautiful new patterns!?! So do you still have the Hikoo Kenzie, color 1018, lot 2? If so, could I PLEASE purchase it?
